We have a lot of Hibiscus trees in our yard. Even though the flowers don’t last long, more keep coming.

Daryl decided to make Sorrel. We found a recipe on-line and started the process.

First he dried some Hibiscus petals. Then added to water.

Next he added orange peel, a cinnamon stick and star anise.

A little stirring, let it simmer for a bit, and we watched the color coming out of the Hibiscus leaves.

Then we let it sit for the flavors to meld.
Next came the straining….we don’t have any fancy equipment so we used a coffee filter. It worked like a charm.

And another straining.

Almost taste testing time. The recipe said to add sugar to taste. We didn’t.

A nice refreshing spiced drink. Next time we will use more dried Hibiscus leaves to try and make the drink a richer red.
Cheers
